Joan V. Helvie, 80, of Logansport passed away peacefully at 1:15 p.m., Friday, February 27, 2015 at Miller’s Merry Manor in Logansport.

Born on May 5, 1934, in Logansport, she was the daughter of the late Helmuth L. Parker and Mary L. (Robins) Sylvester.

On November 24, 1951 she married Victor D. Helvie. He preceded her in death on February 12, 1972.

Joan was formerly employed in Dietary Department at the former St. Joseph Hospital, Logansport Memorial Hospital and she retired from the Logansport State Hospital.

She was a member of the Women of the Moose and she enjoyed word search puzzles, watching old movies and playing bingo.

Survivors include her children, Debb Smitley (David) of Warren, Brenda Martin (Jeff) of Royal Center and Victor Helvie of New Castle. She is also survived by 3 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by one brother, Helmuth Parker Jr., one sister, Irene Miller and one grandson, Brant Martin.

A Celebration of Life Service will be at 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at Marocco-Rans Funeral Chapel with visitation from 3:00 p.m. until the time of the service. Her son in law, Rev. David Smitley will officiate.

Burial will be at Clymer’s Cemetery at a later date.
