William Edgar Lesher was born on June 21, 1881 at Abbott's Crossing in Hardin County, Iowa, to Daniel and Susan Lesher. At age of two, his family moved to Wall Lake Township, Wright County, Iowa (where he spent most of his life). Mr. Lesher farmed, taught school, was a painter/paper-hanger, and also worked for the U.S. Post Office Department (first as rural mail carrier, then as a Post Office Clerk, and finally as the Postmaster of the Post Offiice in Clarion, Iowa). Mr. Lesher died Saturday, December 17th, at a hospital in Omaha, Nebraska, where he had made his home with his daughter, Elizabeth and family.
Mr. Lesher was preceded in death by a daughter, Vivian (Lesher) Spikes (the late Mrs. Chester Spikes); a sister, Laura (Lesher) Morrow (the late Mrs. Herb Morrow); and a brother, Lawrence Lesher.
Mr. Lesher was survived by his wife, Lula (White) Lesher; four daughters; three sons; eighteen grandchildren, thirty-eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, Daniel Lesher of Clarion (IA) and Clarence Lesher*; and a host of other relatives and friends to mourn his passing.
Funeral services were held Monday, December 19th at 1:30 p. m. at the Eyler Funeral Home with the Reverend Richard Larson officiating. Mrs. Milan sang. Pallbearers were: Richard Benson, Donald Benson, Ronald Carter, Mickey Cornelius, Bob Kalkin, and Donald Lesher. Burial followed in the Evergreen Cemetery of Clarion (IA). The Eyler Funeral Home handle arrangements and ministered to the family.
