Eddie was the ninth of 13 children born to Martin and Peligia (Baranowska) Malkowski and fifth born in the United States. Four of his siblings died before he was born. He lost his mother to tuberculosis in 1925 and his father soon married Mrs. Helen Plifka Drewicz. He lost another brother to tuberculosis in 1926. He married Caroline Marks on the 18 of June, 1938. They have one daughter and four grandchildren.
