Mr. VanOver was a native of Arkahoma, Okla., and lived in Modesto 60 years.
He was a boilerman, then promoted to head of maintenance for Ceres Unified School District, and worked there for 21 years.
He had previously worked as a forklift driver for S&W for 11 years.
He was a member of St. Jude's Catholic Church, Ceres.
He was a member of CSEA Union and the Teamsters union.
He enjoyed deep sea fishing, dancing, travel, cruises, casino gaming, collecting antique shotguns and rifles, and working on and building boats.
He was an Army veteran of World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Mildred C. VanOver of Modesto; children, Diana Napoles and Jacqueline Soares, both of Ceres, and Gail Schafer of Modesto; and sister, Phyllis Grace of Riverbank.
Visitation from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Eaton Family Funeral Home.
A Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Jude's Catholic Church.
Burial at Lakewood Memorial Park, Hughson.
