Alma F. Athearn, 81, of Willimantic, widow of Charles W. Athearn, died Friday (May 16, 1997), In Mansfield. She was born Nov. 11, 1915 In New Britain, daughter of the late Ernest and Alma (Sorrell) Charland. She and her late husband owned and operated Athearn's Garage In Newington for many years before moving to Willington in 1967, and opening Athearn Automotive Center. She was a member of the McSweeney Senior Center in Willimantic.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Alma and Charles Farnsworth of Willington; two stepdaughters, Audrey Fisher if Winthrop, ME and Barbara Bush of Boonton, NJ; a daughter-in-law, Carol Pich Athearn of Bristol; two granddaughters, Kristen A. Farnswortn and Roseann Athearn. She was predeceased by a son, Robert E. Athearn, a Marine Corps veteran of Bristol; and a sister, Amilda Church.

A graveside service and a memorial service will be held at a time and place to be announced. The Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St., Willimantic, Is providing cremation services.
