Alexander James Dallas II was the fourth of ten children born to Mary Elizabeth (Reid) and James Loraine Dallas, Sr.

Alexander's family moved west in covered wagons, and he got his own homestead on Darr's Creek, in the hill country NW of Austin, TX close to Holland and Salado, in Bell County.

Alexander married Tabitha Wills, who also came west with her family, on December 30, 1841, in Washington County, Texas. They were my g.g.grandparents.

Alexander and Tabitha had seven children, my g.grandfather, Reuben Thomas Dallas, the 5th, born at their homestead in Bell County, Texas.

Tabitha died 11.13.1860, and Alexander cut two acres of his homestead out for a hill-top cemetery, known as the Dallas Cemetery. Tabitha was buried at the top of the hill.

Alexander remarried to Margaret Tullough Henry on February 27, 1862 in Bell County, TX. Together they had one child: Jennie Dallas, born 1867.

Alexander's 2nd wife, Margaret also preceded him in death, in 1884. Margaret is buried on one side, with Alexander in the center, and Tabitha on the other side.

Alexander was an enterprising, hard working man who was also a philanthropist, assisting with a college in Salado, TX, the cemetery donation and other public service work.

Alexander died 8.2.1889 and is buried at the cemetery he founded, along with his two wives and some of his offspring.

Dois Dallas, my father and Alexander's g.g.grandson, specified in his will that 'a portion of his ashes should be established at the cemetery', and his stone is close to his great grandparents. (He had his ashes also established at the AZ Veteran's Memorial Cemetery at Phoenix.)
