Byron Demont (Dee) Bassham, 66, died Monday in local hospital following an extended illness.
Final rites for Bassham, a retired rancher, were Tuesday afternoon in First United Methodist Church. Rev. Billy Wilkinson officiated in the funeral service under direction of Kiker and Son.
Pallbearers were Wright Hock, Cary Swann, J. E. Northcutt, Bobby Northcutt, J. J. Light, Ted Sorrells, TroyWalls, Gary Swann, Billy Nelson McClellan and Hunter Swann.
Bassham was born in Fannin County July 27, 1904. He came to Mitchell County with his family in 1908. He and Miss Marion Chappell were married in Lubbock September 21, 1946.
Survivors are his wife of the home at 1334 Elm Street; two sons, Frank W. Bassham and Brian Dee Bassham, both of the home, a daughter, Mrs. T. J. Goss III, of Nacogdoches. Also, a sister, Mrs. Urda Wulfjen, two brothers, Shelly Bassham of Stanton, Nelson Bassham of Fort Worth, and two grandsons.
