Luther's father died when he was age 17. His sisters, Sarah (26) and Mariah (22)were married and brother Eli (25) was married, leaving brother Micagah (20) and Luther (17) living with their mother (56). Micagah died in April of 1880. By June of 1880, in the U. S. Fed. Census lists Luther (18) living with his mother, Lydia (57). In the Nebraka State Census of 1885, Luther is age 22, living with his mother, Lydia (62).
Luther married Roena Babcock on August 22, 1887, at the Longbranch SDB Parsonage, by Rev. Darius King Davis. Luther was age 25 and Roena was age 22. Luther Ayers and his wife, Roena Babcock, were both born and raised in Longbranch, Franklin Precinct, Richardson County, Nebraska. One report by Jon Saunders (ID:121996, "They Came To Milton," Ancestry.com/Rootsweb; "Updated by [email protected] in 2010") lists a Baby Ayers, born est. 1888, in Longbranch, Richardson Co., Nebraska.
Roena died March 7, 1889, one year and 6 months following their marriage; 16 days following her 24th birthday. Luther's mother died on March 22, 1889 at the age of 66, just 15 days after Roena died. Ten months and 26 days later, on February 3, 1890, Luther died at the age of 27 years, 8 months, 11 days.
Out of Luther's 12 siblings and their parents, only one (Mariah Ayers Babcock) was still alive at the time of Luther's death in 1890. Seven siblings died within their first year, one died at age 2, another died at age 21, two were 28, and the oldest brother was 33, when he died in 1887.
