Gregory Cranston Abbott, 71, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away Sunday, February 22, 2015 at SSM Health St. Mary's Hospital with his wife at his side.
He was born on January 18, 1944, in Jefferson City, the son of the late Archie Cranston Abbott and Anna Laura Eggleson Abbott.
He was a 1962 graduate of Jefferson City High School.
Mr. Abbott's career included working as a technical representative on special projects for the U.S. Air Force which took him to many locations around the world. He had a long career as an Electrical Engineer specializing in instrumentation and controls for Sergeant & Lundy Engineering in the nuclear power industry.
He was married on November 11, 1978, in Jefferson City to Carol Mae Anderson Pickering who survives at the home. The couple lived in Bolingbrook, Illinois, until his retirement when they moved to Jefferson City ten years ago.
Gregory was an avid federally licensed Amateur Radio operator holding the call sign WBØAQV. He was a member of the Mid-MO Amateur Radio Club and served his church as an emergency preparedness communications specialist.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and was active in the Jefferson City High School Alumni Association.
In addition to his wife of thirty-seven years, other survivors include three children, Shane (Kim) Abbott, Roselle, Illinois; Charles (Yvonne) Pickering, El Dorado, California; and Marty (Roseanne) Pickering, Bolingbrook, Illinois; eight grandchildren, Jessica (Dan) Kiesling; John (Nichole) Pickering; Jennifer (Tyler) Davis; Josh Pickering; Alexis Abbott; Amanda Abbott; Nicolas (Erin) Maurer; and Hillary Maurer; three great-grandchildren, Riley Kiesling, Kyleigh Kiesling, and Raelynn Pickering; one brother David Abbott, Holts Summit, Missouri; one sister, Barbara Huskey, Fulton, Missouri; one nephew, Andrew Abbott, Holts Summit, Missouri; and one cousin, Mike (Sheila) McAllister of Jefferson City, and their children, Christopher, Matthew, and Gage.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 28, 2015, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 4618 Henwick Lane, Jefferson City.
Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.
Visitation will be 6-8:30 p.m. Friday, February 27, 2015, at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home.
