After a four month courtship, she married Nathan Bobby Matson, her beloved cowboy on February 18, 1947. They traveled by bus to Temple, Texas staying in a motel for their honeymoon. They were blessed with 66 years of marriage until his death on September 28, 2013. Her second and only other visit to a motel was in 2013 during a surprise trip to Schulenburg with family. She worked beside her husband farming and ranching her entire life. In her spare time she was a homemaker. She took great pride in her flowers and plants and enjoyed combining recycled items to create unique decorations for her home.
Left to honor her memory are her daughters Linda Sue Matson of Longmont, Colorado, Peggy Jean Broussard and husband Allen, and Janice Matson Holladay and husband Tony of Port Lavaca; grandsons Brandon Matthew Johnson and wife Jody of Longmont, Colorado, Derek Nathan Broussard and wife Kara of Victoria, Troy Quenton Broussard and Connor Shields Holladay of Port Lavaca; great grandsons, Vincent and Ryatt Johnson, Dylan and the future Case Broussard; sister Esterleen Spann of Victoria; brother Elmer Gene Adamek of Schulenburg; and her precious Dachshund Lil'Bit.
Waiting to greet her at Heaven's gate were her parents; husband; grandson Riley Matson Holladay; granddaughter Faran Leigh Matson; sister Laverne Grahman; and brother Lynwood Adamek.
A memorial service will be held at the Salem Lutheran Church fellowship hall with Pastor Dan Zellmer officiating.
