Mary Stinson Thomas, 89, of 3176 East Third Avenue, died Saturday at Eventide Nursing Home after a long illness. Mrs. Thomas was born Feb. 29, 1880 in the Mogollon Mountains in Arizona Territory. Her father, James Stinson, migrated to Arizona in 1873 and located in the Salt River Valley, becoming one of Arizona's earliest pioneers. He later founded the Stinson Trail in New Mexico. Her mother, Melissa Bagley Stinson, came west with one of the first Mormon trains to settle in Utah. The Stinson's later moved to Colorado where Mary was married to William Silvey, a cattleman and rancher from Missouri. She later married Silas G. Thomas and settled in the Marvel area. She was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She is survived by five daughters, Mrs. Ivy McChesney and Hallie Thomas, both of Durango, Mrs. Ruth Carmer, Tulsa, Okla., Mrs. William Kemmitzer of Menlo Park Calif., and Mrs. Veryl Axtell of Sioux City, Iowa, a sister, Mrs. Pearl Majors, Durango, seven grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Ertel Parklawn chapel with Elder Clarence B. Wallis of the Reorganized Church of Latter Day Saints officiating. Burial will be in the Marvel Cemetery. The casket will be open until time of services for those who wish to view . . . .
