Services for Harvey Bills King, 80, of Tyler, will be held on Thursday, March 18, 2010, at 3 p.m. at Green Acres Baptist Church Chapel with Dr. Paul Powell officiating.

A private family burial will precede the service under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home.

Mr. King passed away on March 15, 2010, at Mother Frances Hospital in Tyler.

He was born April 10, 1929, in Hillsboro to Tom S. and Carrie Lee Slater King.

Harvey had been a loyal partner of Brookshire Grocery Co. since June 1, 1955. He served more than 38 years in numerous positions throughout the company, including accountant and controller.

During the 1970s, Harvey served as treasurer-assistant secretary, secretary and treasurer and vice president secretary-treasurer.

In 1984 Harvey was named executive vice president-secretary and treasurer, a position he held until September of 1985 when he was named executive vice president-finance, secretary. He became the vice chairman-finance, secretary in 1990 and held this title until he then took the position as vice chairman-finance.

A graduate of Hillsboro High School, Harvey attended Hillsboro Junior College, Howard Payne College and North Texas State University, graduating in 1955 with a bachelor's degree in accounting. He served in the U.S. Army as a first lieutenant in the Signal Corps from 1951 to 1953.

A resident of Tyler for more than 38 years, Harvey was active in numerous civic organizations, including the Kiwanis Club of Tyler, Salvation Army Advisory Board and the Tyler Economic Development Council.

Mr. King was preceded in death by his parents, and his son, Timothy Biggers King.

He is survived by his loving family including his wife, Bobbie Biggers King; daughter-in-law, Lisa King; brother, Thomas King and wife Laverne of Livingston; sister-in-law, Sue Hammock and husband Jim of Austin; grandsons, Tucker King and Tanner King, both of Flint; nephews, Tommy King, David King and Joe Mike King, and Jeff Hammock and Jeremy Hammock; nieces, Carol Koch, Carmil Carter and Suzanne King.

Pallbearers will be Dr. Bill Smyth, Richard Clouse, Jimmy Hicks, Tracy Crawford, John Minton, Joe Moore, Paul Arnold, Vernon Redd and Bill Bonafay.

Honorary pallbearers will be the Zero Club, Tommy Young, Paul Chance, Stuart Chesley, Mike Rowan and officers and directors of Brookshire Grocery Co.

Memorials in honor of Harvey Bills King may be made to the Bethesda Health Clinic, 409 W. Ferguson, Tyler, 75702; or the Salvation Army, P.O. Box 2050, Tyler.
