Cenotaph only and his body was not recovered
after the C-47 Skytrain he was aboard went
missing at sea during World War II, on a
nighttime navigational training flight, about 25
miles southeast of Cape Fear, North Carolina.

Army C-47s during a rain storm over the
Atlantic Ocean. They included:
