Les was born on March 26, 1941, in Platter, Okla., to Vernon Edward Abbott and Dorothy Francis Davis Abbott.
He graduated from Columbia University and received his master of education from Boston University. Les retired from the U.S. Army after 22 years of service as an E7 sergeant first class. He later retired in 2006 from the Department of the Army as an education specialist. Les was an avid reader and book collector. He volunteered for the past three years at the Arlington Public Library.
Survivors: Wife of 53 years, Donna Schaffer Abbott; son, Leslie G. Abbott Jr. and wife, Carrolyn; daughter, Sarah Anne Abbott; grandchildren, Kaitlin Anne, Kayleigh Morgan and Joshua Preston.
