Sarah's land was deeded to her and her children by James Admire in Lucas County, Iowa. The Mo. land was part of land once owned by Henry Bird, he had received it as a land grant from his service in the War of 1812 in Capt. John Simpson's Kentucky Company Kentucky Volunteer Militia. Henry and his wife Rebecca Pollard lived next door to Andrew Alexander in Estill County, Kentucky in 1830. He died in Shelby County, Indiana on April 19, 1839. Rebecca filed additional papers in 1877 in Marion County, Indiana stating that she was 77 and had never remarried. She also received land from Samuel Bird. Perhaps they were related in some way to her father. Moses never owned any land. There was a family story about her name being "Sally Singing Bird" and that was perhaps a nickname. There is a fiddle in Iowa that was said to have come from England with her family. Sarah was said to play the fiddle up on a hill that was called by the locals "Sally's Mountain". This was on a part of her land.

We are in receipt of a communication from the east end of the county signed by a reliable citizen, which relates to the manner Mrs. Sarah Alexander, aged widow, was duped by a man by name of Asbin who professed to be a stock buyer. He stayed around in that locality some time representing that he was a single man and well off, claiming to own a farm in this county, a barber shop in Brookfield and considerable ready money which he displayed to Mrs. Alexander, he persuaded her to marry him and they went to Schuyler county where the ceremony was performed. They lived together very agreeably, making several trips to Lancaster, Queen City and Kirksville. On Oct. 20th, they started to visit her daughter, Mrs. Tom Smith of Green City, by way of Queen City, where he told her to get out at one of the stores and warm. She did so and he disappeared with her fine bay team and rig and 20 dollars of her money -all the ready money she had, and he hasn't been seen or heard of since. Mrs. Alexander owned 40 acres of land, the rent of which supplied her frugal wants, and the team of bright bay mares before mentioned. The people of that neighborhood are naturally very indignant over the matter and the culprit ought to be apprehended. Asbrin is described as having a light complexion, sandy mustache, with light hair. Weighs about 160 pounds and is about 5 foot and 10 inches tall. Has a scar on his left temple, slightly sloop shouldered and has blue eyes. He wore a black high crown hat, black coat, light pants and cowhide boots. Any information on his where-abouts should be communicated to Sheriff Crooks.

* I can't find any marriage record for this. She went back to Alexander. I am attaching her marriage record to Moses.
