Born to Henry David and Alice Hettmann Kent. On June 5,1956, he married Kay Doyle in Dublin, Ireland.
Dr. Kent was an Obstetrics and Gynecology physician for over 42 years in Southeast Iowa. He retired in 2002.
He earned hIs undergraduate and medical degree from Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland in 1952 and 1956, respectively. He served his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, Florida.
He was a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and an active member of Des Moines County Medical Society. He served on the board of Sacred Heart Hospital in Fort Madison and Burlington Medical Center. He was a former Chief of Staff of Sacred Heart Hospital and Burlington Medical Center. He was a counselor for Iowa Medical Society since 1974, past President of Parents Club at Sacred Heart School in Fort Madison, and President of the Burlington Medical Center Staff Foundation. He was a member of the International Holiday Rambler Recreational Club for 35 years. He was an active member of the Great River Holiday Ramblers and the Quinsippi Holiday Ramblers RV Clubs, and Motley Crew Investment Club. Dr. Kent was an avid stamp collector, enjoyed classical music, photography, and traveling in his motor home, having been to 48 states.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Kay; sons, David L. Kent (Diana) of Davenport, and Michael J. Kent of Ottumwa; daughters, Elizabeth Ann (Tim) Lynch of Acova, Indiana, Jacqueline M. (John) Wahle of Wildwood, Missouri, and Marie F. Kent of O'Fallon, Missouri; and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Joan.
A Funeral Mass was held at St. Paul's Catholic Church with Rev. Father Patrick J. Hilgendorf officiating. Music was provided by the Des Moines County Resurrection Choir. Entombment was in the family mausoleum at Aspen Grove Cemetery.
