Ronald Glen Dickens, Sr., 62, formerly of Alpoca, died Saturday, May 6, 2006, at Frye Regional Medical Center in Hickory, NC, following a long illness.

Born October 23, 1943, at Sundial, WV, he was the son of Leona (Barefield) Dickens of Valdese, NC, and the late Clarence Linville Dickens.

Mr. Dickens was formerly a lifelong resident of Alpoca, and had been a resident of Valdese, NC, for the past two years. He was a former truck driver in the coalfields for many years.

Those left to cherish his memory include his mother, Leona (Barefield) Dickens of Valdese, NC; two sons, Ronald Glen Dickens, Jr. of Coal City, and Jerry Wayne Dickens of Mullens; three grandsons; Joshua Glen Dickens of Coal City, Brian and Michael Dickens of Mullens; two brothers, Randall Dickens and Clarence Lee Dickens, both of Beckley, and seven sisters, Melba Wilson of Daniels, Carol Maltba of Lenoir, NC, Tena Sizemore of Morganton, NC, Tammy Isom of Hickory, NC, Rose Adams, Rita Shuffler and Donna Bowling, all of Valdese, NC.

Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Tankersley Funeral Home Chapel, Mullens, with the Rev. Carl Underwood officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley.

Friends may call 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be brothers-in-law and nephews.
