BEALS - Richard C. Alley went peacefully to meet the Lord with family by his side on February 17, 2015. Richard was born June 11, 1933, in Beals. He was the son of Joseph Shirley Alley and Eulala (Alley) Alley.
Richard served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He married his first wife, Evelyn in 1955.
He began his career of boat building and worked in several local boat shops. In the late 60's, Richard started his own boat building business. "Richard's Boat Shop" was completed in the early 70's. Richard and Evelyn worked side by side and built many boats together. The largest and one of the last boats he built was the 58' X 18.6' scallop dragger "Northern Contender". Richard was later, entered into the "Boat Builder's Hall of Fame".
In 1995, after the passing of his wife Evelyn, he married Ina Barnes and adopted her large family.
Ina and Richard enjoyed going to church together. Many times Ina would accompany Richard to the Jonesport Pentecostal Church, and he would accompany her to the Jonesport Wesleyan Church.
Richard had many interests through the years, 1974 he became a Shriner of the Anah Temple of Bangor, he enjoyed motorcycling, snowmobiling, fishing, and hunting with his son, Broderick and in later years with his step-son, John Jr. (Buck) and his step-grandson Alvin.
In later years, he was content looking at the beautiful ocean view, through his living room window, where he could always be seen.
He is survived by his wife Ina (Woodward)(Barnes) Alley, son Bryon Alley, son Broderick Alley and Wife Dwina (Beal) Alley, a very special granddaughter Jennifer Alley and her dog (Bigfoot) AKA Gramps Boy, all of Beals; Step daughters Leanne and husband John Beal Jr. of Jonesport, Laurel and husband Nathan Beal of Marshfield, Lynda and husband Thad Dolley of Machias, Laureen Libby of Frankfort, brother-in-law John Alley Sr. of Augusta, sister-in-law Adele (Lenfestey) Alley of Addison, brother-in-law William Alley and wife Jessie (Crowley) Alley of Addison. Several step grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. A nephew Charles Merchant Jr. who was more like a son.
Richard was predeceased by his parents, his wife of 39 years Evelyn M. (Alley) Alley, his sister Arlena (Alley) Alley, brother Eben Alley, sister-in-law Francis (Alley) Alley, brother Joseph Alley Jr., step-father Isaac Seavey, father-in-law Levi Alley, mother-in-law Adeline(Alley) Alley, sister-in-law Annie (Alley)Merchant, and Bryon's friend Rhonda Leighton.
As requested by the family, visiting hours and funeral services will be private. A graveside committal service will be held in the spring.
Arrangements are in care of McClure Family Funeral Services Machias and Lubec.
