Roused by her daughter Rebecca one autumn night in 1778 they managed to escape to their fields before their house was set afire. Amid much physical hardship they made their way to New York and the British until evacuated to New Brunswick, Canada.
After the end of the war her son Robert convinced her to move to Ontario and the Niagara area. A year after a rumor reached the family through a trader of a Land living alone at the Head-of-the-Lake. Robert and brother Ephraim took the 50 mile journey to find their long lost and believed deceased father smoking on the front porch of his cabin.
