Uriel Freeman Ames Sr. passed away at his home on Jan. 13, 1997.
He was born Jan. 24, 1926, in Pocatello, ID. He grew up in the Idaho Falls area.
He served in the US Army in Central Europe Campaign in World War II. He received American Theater Ribbon, European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with 2 bronze service stars, Victory Medal, 2 Purple Heart medals for combat injuries and received an honorable discharge from the Army on Nov. 28, 1945.
He married Fay V. Richardson Feb. 20, 1948, in Idaho Falls. They were married for 48 years. They have 5 daughters and one son [names deleted]. He farmed for a number of years. He was a security guard for JR Simplot and later for the US Government HUD Project. He took early retirement for health reasons. He was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather.
He spent most of his time caring for his wife and child at home. He also helped all his children and grandchildren in any way he could. He had 21 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren with 4 more on the way.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father when he was young.
Services will be Thursday, Jan. 16, 1997, at 1:00 PM at Coltrin Colonial Mortuary in Idaho Falls, with Pastor Kirk Casey from Calvary Baptist Church officiating. Family will receive friends Wednesday, Jan. 15, 1997, from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Coltrin Mortuary and one hour prior to services on Thursday. Burial will be held in Rose Hill Cemetery with military graveside rites by the Bonneville County Veterans Team.
