JOHN J. SLADKEY
John Sladkey, Sr., lifelong Town of Cooperstown resident and retired farmer and industrial worker, died early Friday morning at his home at Maribel. Mr. Sladkey, 76, had been in ill health for two years. Funeral services will be at 9:15 a.m. Monday, at Saur Funeral Home, Kellnersville and at9:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in the village. The Rev. Francis Wenda will officiate and burial will be in Greenstreet Cemetery.
Mr. Sladkey was born in 1881, son of the late John and Mary Anderis Sladkey. After he married Rose Snorek, November 5, 1901, the couple settled on the Sladkey homestead farm and operated it until 1945, when a son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Kralovitz took over. The couple then moved to Maribel.
He was employed variously by Manitowoc Shipbuilding Inc., Valente Concrete Products of Maribel and Dufeck Mfg. Co., of Denmark. Five years ago impaired health caused him to retire. Mr. Sladkey had been a former director and manager of Rosecrans Dairy for 10 years, a director of Denmark Farmers Telephone Co. five yars and a member of Z.C.B.J. Lodge 114, Rosecrans. The couple observed the golden anniversary of its wedding in 1953.
Mr. Sladkey is survived by his wife, two sons, John of Maribel and William of Melnik; five daughters, Mrs. Frank Wranovsky of Phoenix, Ariz., Mrs. Edwin Krish of Manitowoc, Mrs. Walter Bielinski of Denmark and Mrs. Edward (illegible) of Maribel; a brother Frank of (illegible), a sister, Mrs. Emma Hallada of Two Creeks, 22 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Friends may call at the funeral home after 9 a.m. Sunday where the Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m.
