John Willis Bainum joined the rest of his family in Heaven on February 17, 2015, from his home in Sheridan. He was born in the same house on August 31, 1934, to Glee C. and Essie Grace (Watson) Bainum.

John was a member of the Sheridan Christian Church and graduated from Sheridan High School in 1952. He helped his father at Sheridan Frozen Foods and the cafe; until his fathers death. He worked at the Crystal Factory in Grant City, Mo., and other businesses in Sheridan. He owned and operated Trails End Cafe; in Sheridan from 1976-2009.

John played the piano by ear, and entertained nieces and nephews with his love for music. He spent many hours over the years hiking for arrowheads and agates. He also had a love of flowers and created many beautiful flower gardens. He was active in the Sheridan Dinner Theaters and the Sheridan Alumni Association. He was an avid historian and genealogist, and was instrumental in listing and recording area cemetery information.

John was preceded in death by his parents; brother, William Martin Bainum; sister, Della Louise Sherer; sister-in-law, Clorine Bainum; brother-in-law, George Sherer; and great-nephew, Todd Bainum.

He is survived by: nephew, Michael (Bobbi) Bainum, of Redding, Iowa; and nieces, Charlotte (Dale) Knight, Debora Sherer of Cainsville, Mo., Vonda (Doug) Runde, of Ravenwood, Mo., and Lola (Adam) Bean, of Maryville, Mo.; great-nieces and nephews, Anastasia (Jeff) Pearce, Matthew Bainum, Joe (Gina) Bainum, Stephanie (Tom) Van Osten, Andrea (Doug) Wilson, Tyeson (Kelli) Claypool, Chancey (Brent) Sorensen, Sadie Runde, Alex Bean; and several cousins and friends.

John was a memorable and beloved uncle, and entertained his nieces and nephews all of his life.

Visitation will be 6-7:30 p.m. Thursday, February 19, 2015, at the Prugh-Dunfee Funeral Home in Grant City, Mo.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday, February 20, 2015, at the funeral home.

Burial will be in the Sheridan Cemetery. As published in the St. Joseph News-Press.
