Al, surrounded by his loving family, passed away peacefully on May 18, 2014 from a brief illness. Al, a resident of Canton, was born in Louisville, Ohio on September 2, 1929. Following his graduation from Timken Vocational High School in 1947, he enlisted in the United States Navy and proudly served his country during the Korean War. He retired from The Canton Repository in 1994 after a distinguished career of 37 years. He was a member of the VFW Post #3747, Louisville Eagles Aerie #2374 and the American Legion Post #44. Al was an avid fisherman and golfer and enjoyed watching the Cleveland Indians. He also loved music, loved to dance and always carried a harmonica in his pocket. He loved to share colorful stories about his world travels while in the Navy. To all who knew him, there was no better friend than Al. Preceded in death by his parents Duro and Elizabeth (Bagley) Abdulla and brother Arthur Abdulla. He is survived by his children Greg Russell of Canton, Jewell Garvin of Navarre, sister Grace Mellman of San Diego, CA, brothers David Abdulla of Canton, Duro (Joanne) Abdulla of Rockwall, Texas, Joseph Abdulla of Canton, and numerous nieces and nephews. Family and friends will be received on Friday (Tonight) from 6 to 8 pm at the Rossi Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 1:00 pm in the funeral home. Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Louisville, OH.
