Death of George H. Allen
Our community was shocked on Friday morning last, Jan. 30, at the announcement of the death of George H. Allen, which occurred that morning suddenly from heart disease at his home near Effingham, Kansas, aged 60 years.

While Mr. Allen had been in ill health for several years there had been no alarming conditions apparent and he seemed to be in his usual health up to the time of the stopping of the heart action.

Mr. Allen was in every way the ideal citizen, husband, father, and neighbor, and when in health was active, and loyal in church affairs during his many years' residence in and near Oregon, which practically covered his entire life, with the exception of the time spent on his farm in Liberty township.

Mr. Allen was the son of the late Edgar L. Allen, and was born on what is known as the old Risk farm southeast of Oregon, where the deceased attended school. After teaching for a few years he then went to active farm life in Liberty township, which he continued until he was elected county collector in 1888, serving two terms, from March 1889 to 1893, and also served as deputy to the late Nicolas Stock as collector in 1905-7, and in April 1907, he was appointed postmaster of Oregon, succeeding Mr. Tom Curry, which position he held until his failing health compelled him to resign, he being succeeded by Hugh Harsha, in November, 1915.

Mr. Allen remained a citizen of Oregon until some four years ago when he went to his farm in Effingham, Kansas, in the hopes that his health might be bettered, and where his final summons came.

He was married to Miss Ibbie O. Haynes, of Atchison County, Mo., July 5, 1889, who with two sons and one daughter, Mrs. Fred Morgan, of Effingham, Kansas, survive. He is also survived by two brothers, Edgar and Floyd, of St. Joseph, and four sisters, Miss Emma and Edna, of St. Joseph, Mrs. W.I. Hodgin, and Mrs. James Huiatt, of Clay township, and two grandchildren.

The body was brought to Oregon on Sunday last, February 1, and was taken to the Presbyterian Church, where the funeral services were held by Oregon Lodge A.F. & A.M., he having been a member of this lodge many years. The funeral discourse was delivered by Rev. W.T. Walker, of the Presbyterian Church. The interment was in Maple Grove Cemetery, the burial charge of the Masonic order being delivered by P.M. Judge Harry M. Dungan."
