George William Bowden, 58, fireman at the Hydraulic Press company, Shale City, died suddenly Sunday, October 11, 1936, morning at his home in Wanlock, Illinois, following a heart attack. George was born January 25, 1878, near Aledo, a son of Amanda and Benjamin Bowden. He married Mary (Brock/Braucht) Esp, of Wanlock, on November 8, 1930, at Aledo. He had spent his entire life in Mercer county and was educated in rural schools.

He had left home for work near midnight. Upon learning there was no work, he walked home and went to his room, where his wife found him lying on the floor gasping for breath. He died before a physician arrived.

In addition to his aged mother and his wife, he is survived by: three sisters:, Maude Moffitt, Mathervllle; Mary Riddell, Aledo; and Geneva Werts, Shale City: seven step-children: William Esp, Viola; Edna Vipond and Charles Esp of Shales City; Arthur Esp of. Deefield, IL; Harold, Earl, and Patty Esp, at home.

Pallbearers were: Frank Peterson, Swan Rasmussen, Harry Breachbell, Sr., and Harry Breachbell, Jr., Millard Whitt, and Frank Spence.
