CONNEAUT — Roy L. Woodworth, age 79, of Conneaut, passed away Sunday morning, Feb. 15, 2015, at Lake Pointe Rehabilitation Center, Conneaut, Ohio, from complications of Muscular Dystrophy which he fought for 28 years.

He was born June 9, 1935, in West Springfield, Pa., the son of Lee and Ruth (Stahle) Woodworth. Roy graduated from Conneaut High School in 1953 and enrolled in the U.S. Navy.


After his service in the Navy, he worked for the former Conneaut News Herald, Printcraft, and retired from the Pittsburgh and Conneaut Dock Company.

He was a member of St. Mary Roman Catholic Church Corpus Christi Parish where he had been a member of the choir. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, sports, cooking, and spending time with his family. He was an avid Conneaut Spartans fan and was the biggest fan of his grandchildren’s sporting events. Because of his enthusiasm and excitement, Roy was honored as the recipient of the Joe Daggett Award by the Downtown Coaches Club. He provided brownies for all of their teams. All the players looked forward to Grandpa Roy’s homemade brownies.

Survivors include his wife, Janet L. (Julio) Woodworth, whom he married August 25, 1956; his daughters, Karen (Tom) Picard of Conneaut, Toni (Robert) Wheeler of Conneaut, Renee Taylor (Cam Murchison) of Waterdown, Ontario, Canada, and Belinda (David) Adams of Conneaut; grandchildren, Lisa (Curt) Distel, Lori (Jon) Distel, Jason Picard, Renae Picard, Roxanne (Gary) Tantari, Troy Adams (Amanda Lau), Deakan Adams, Michele (Bobby) Nelson, Maria Taylor, and Jacob and Justin Murchison; great-grandchildren, Matthew Adams, Katie Adams, Baby Boy Adams due in April, Ayden Tantari, Wyatt Distel, Delaney Distel, Robbie Distel, Kristiana Distel, Brody Nelson, Brenna Nelson, R.J. Nelson, Shane Picard, Ryan Picard, and Megan Webber; brother, James (Barbara) Woodworth of Davidson, N.C.; and several nieces, nephews, and more distant relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Gerry Abbott; his twin brother, Raymond Woodworth; and nephew, Butch Jennings.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 19th, at St. Mary Roman Catholic Church, Corpus Christi Parish, 480 State St., Conneaut, with Fr. Philip Miller officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens with Military Honors conducted by the American Legion Cowle Post #151.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 18th, at MARCY FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION CENTER, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut.
