Chester A. Nigh, 62, prominent Marion township resident, passed away at his home three miles north of Shelbyville on the Riley Highway at 2:10 p.m. Thursday. Mr. Nigh, a retired farmer, had formerly served as Marion township trustee for two terms and as township assessor for 20 years. His death followed an illness of several years but his condition had been serious only since Friday.
A life long resident of Shelby county, Mr. Nigh was born in Hanover township on June 27, 1885, the son of Emmons and Cynthia Jane (Mc Connell) Nigh.
He was married to Miss Clara Bassett on August 14, 1907.
The deceased was a member of the Brandywine Methodist Church.
Survivors include the widow; a daughter, Mrs. Beatrice Trimnell, and a son, Ralph, both of Marion township; and four grandchildren, Betty and Marlin Trimnell and Richard and Janice Nigh. Mr. Nigh is also survived by three brothers, Jesse and Everett, both of near Morristown, and Frank of near Arlington.
One sister Mrs. Flora Wayman, preceded his in death.
Funeral services will be held at the late home at 10:30 a.m. Monday in charge of the Sleeth Funeral Home. The Rev. James W. Cox, of Center Point, will officiate and burial will be in Forest Hill cemetery. Friends may call at the late home at any time.
