Minnie Houtsma age 95 of Sibley, IA died Saturday February 14, 2015 at Country View Manor in Sibley, IA.

Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday February 18, 2015 at the First Presbyterian Church in Sibley, IA with Rev. Terry Simm officiating.

Burial will follow at Hills of Rest Cemetery in Sioux Falls, SD.

Visitation will be Tuesday February 17th from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Jurrens Funeral Home in Sibley.

Minnie “Min” Houtsma was born January 23, 1920 at Rushmore, Minnesota to Herb and Florence (Sherfield) Henrichs. She attended country school near Rushmore and completed the 8th grade.

On April 11, 1943 she was united in marriage to Henry C. Houtsma in her family home. The couple made their home in Sioux Falls, South Dakota before moving to Rushmore. They then moved to Ocheydan, Iowa before moving back to Sioux Falls. In March of 1968 Henry passed away.

In her early years Min worked at John Morrell in Sioux Falls and later at Greenlee Packing Company. Lastly in her working life she was employed in Public Service of Colorado. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Sibley. She taught Sunday school for many years, enjoyed reading, counted cross stitch, playing cards and dominoes, as well as sewing, gardening and home decorating. Min loved her family very much and so enjoyed holding her great-grandchildren. At the age of 91 she had a wonderful time as she rode in a private airplane over the city of Denver. This past Saturday Min passed away at Country View Manor in Sibley, Iowa at the age of 95. She will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her daughters, Barbara (James) Schlottman of Aurora, Colorado and Jean (Claude) Garelik of Vermillion, South Dakota; grandchildren, Tadd (Anette) Schlottman of Aurora, Colorado and Tara (Chad) Lindburg of Castle Rock, Colorado; Jennifer Jones of Iowa City, IA, Joshua Garelik of Valley City, ND and Honolulu, HI, Steven (Sarah) Garelik of Vermillion, SD; seven great-grandchildren; sister, Violet (Arnold) Clark of Worthington, Minnesota and Dolly Schuck of Sibley, IA; brother-in-law, Edward Brandt of Sibley, IA; nieces; nephews; and other extended family members.

Min was preceded in death by her parents, Herb and Florence (Sherfield) Henrichs; husband, Henry C. Houtsma; sisters, Anna Henrichs and Lillian Brandt; brother, Harvey Henrichs; foster brother, Jim Baumann and brother-in-law, Lester Schuck.
