Nancy Caldwell (1847-1876)was a daughter of James and Sarah Turner Cain Caldwell of York County. About 1871, as South Carolina lay under the heavy hand of Reconstruction, she was married to Thomas Jason Thompson of York County. Soon after the wedding they left on a wagon train for the territory of Arkansas, an arduous trip in those days, and settled in Bradley County. There, in 1876, Nancy died, leaving a small daughter, Mary Thompson (1873-1876).
