"Hillery Sheets among the very few who are left of our old citizens, died at his home in Clay Township, Carroll County, Indiana, April 20, 1886, aged 72 years. He resided for many years just east of Cutler, Indiana and came to this county (Carroll County) soon after John Adams settled on Wildcat Creek in 1826. The immediate cause of his death was Catarrh in the head. Mr. Sheets was a quiet, considerate neighbor and greatly respected. He leaves a family of six children to mourn his departure. Reverend Mr. Spitler, pastor of the United Brethren Church of Colburn, officiated at his funeral which took place at the Thomas Chapel, near Xenia."

The 1880 census lists Hillary Sheets residing in Clay Township, Carroll County, Indiana, at age 63. His occupation is listed as farmer, and birthdate as 1817 in Virginia. His wife is Christina, age 52, born in Ohio and children are George E Sheets, age 20; Levi H Sheets, age 17; Cora, age 10 and James O. Sheets, age 13. (In addition to his last wife, Christina, there were two previous wives. Hillary married Eliza P. Bell on December 31, 1840; she passed away about 1845.
Hillary was married to Lovina Sheagley, daughter of Jacob R. Sheagley and Sarah Hurley Sheagley on March 12, 1846; she passed away in 1855 at age 31.)
