T. H. Bass was born at Holland, Georgia, February 15, 1885. His boyhood days were spent in Georgia and Alabama. At the age of nineteen he joined the Baptist church of which his parents were members. In January, 1905, he came with his parents to Texas, locating at Sidney in Comanche County. It was here that he first heard of the church of Christ. In August of 1908 he obeyed the gospel under the preaching of that prince of preachers, T. W. Phillips, Sr. In April of the same year be was married to Miss Lexia Stagner of Sidney, Texas, who has been his faithful companion all these years. Having come to a knowledge of the truth, of which he had known absolutely nothing all his boyhood days, he had a desire to preach that truth to others. It was seven years later, however, before this desire was realized. On the first Sunday in September, 1915, he made his first effort as a preacher of the gospel at Rock Hill, Texas. He continued to preach occasionally until November, 1916, when he moved to Thorp Spring where he attended Thorp Spring Christian College for three years. One year was spent as a school teacher, and then the church at Stephenville with the cooperation of other congregations in the county, desired to evangelize Erath County, and he was offered this work and spent two years there as county evangelist. Seventeen meetings were held the first year which resulted in the establishment of six congregations. In 1922 he moved with his family to Lufkin, Texas, where he did local work with that splendid church for four years. He then moved to Bartlett, Texas, where he preached for the church three years. One year was spent with the church at Itasca, and then he moved to Hamilton where he labored one year. The last three years he bas been located with the church in Monroe, Louisiana, where he has done a good work. A number of meetings have been held in Texas Oklahoma, Louisiana, and Mississippi, in which many people have been baptized. ---Firm Foundation, March 19, 1935, p. 3.
