Harold joined the army under the name Harold V. Krause, probably so that his mother wouldn't learn of it until it was too late because, being a widow, she was very protective of her two sons.
Harold was killed by a sniper bullet in 1944. His mother had his body shipped home after the war ended, thus he was buried in 1948 under his correct name of Crouse.
He received the bronze star posthumously in 1955. He also received a congratulatory letter from President Eisenhour.
