RIVERDALE ~ David Earl Blackner, age 78, passed away peacefully from this life on February 9, 2015.
He was born on December 10, 1936 in Salt Lake City to Arthur Lee and Ann Weidner Blackner.
In 1983 he married Helen Bowman Wayment. On May 1, 1998, their marriage was solemnized in the Ogden LDS Temple.
Dave was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was a High Priest in the Riverdale Third Ward, Riverdale Stake. He served in many positions and was grateful for each opportunity.
Dave grew up in the small town of Greenville in Southern Utah. He attended Brigham Young University, Southern Utah State University and graduated from Utah State University in 1962.
He worked for the United States Forest Service for 32 years, retiring in 1994. His career took him all over the United States and Alaska. Since his retirement from the Forest Service he has served as President of a nonprofit organization serving the Wasatch Front Communities.
Dave is survived by his wife of 31 years Helen, daughter Lisa A. Horne, son Kendall L., and daughter, Lauri K. (David) Rusch; stepdaughter, Kimberly K. (Ron) VanSweden; and stepson, Shaun T. (Christine) Spicker. He also leaves behind 19 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was extremely proud of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his three sisters and one brother, LaRee Stewart and Maurine Yardley, Milford Utah; Elaine Swindlehurst, Boulder City, Nevada; and Orson Blackner, Greenville, Utah.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 14, 2015 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary.
Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
