Max L. Baker, 94, Roaring Spring, died Thursday afternoon at Nason Hos­pital, Roaring Spring, after a brief illnes.

Max was born in Roaring Spring, PA son of Harry & Fannie (Loose) Baker.  He was a 1938 graduate of Roaring Spring High School and a later graduate of West Chester State College, majoring in education.  He later received a Master of Education Degree from Penn State University.

In September 1943, he married Doris E. Whitman. To the union were born three sons: David (Nancy, Bruce (Joan), and Daniel (Jocelyn).  To those unions were born eight grandchildren and subsequently 12 great grandchildren.

Max was a World War II veteran, having served as Commander, of a US Navy rocket ship during the war in the Pacific Theater.

He retired from his education career in 1982 after 37 years of service at Roaring Spring High School and subsequently the Spring Cove School District.  While a part of these institutions, Max served as a teacher, sports coach, principal and acting superintendent.

Max was very civic minded. He was a life-long member of the Bare Memorial Church of God, where he taught a Sunday School class for over 60 years, a member of the church choir and the church council.

Because of civic mindedness, Max served as Chairman, Board of Directors, Garver Memorial YMCA; Vice-chair of the Roaring Spring Community Library; Executive Director of the Roaring Spring 75th Anniversary Committee; President of the Blair County and Roaring Spring Planning Commissions; member of the Roaring Spring Lions Club; and the Morrison's Cove Education Foundation.  He also was a member of the Blair County School Principal's Association.

in his free time, Max enjoyed boating, woodworking, upholstery, golf and delivering Meals-on-Wheels.
