PICTOU LANDING ROAD - Mable Elsie Sloan, 83 of 5123 Pictou Landing Road, RR2 Trenton, passed away peacefully, April 28, 2010, at her home as per her wishes after a very short battle with cancer with her husband and family by her side.
Born on August 31, 1926 to John R. and Mable Fraser, formerly of Trenton and French River.
She is survived by her very loving husband of seven and a half years, Angus Sloan; and her only daughter, Linda E. Brine (Sid Hale), Westville; grandsons, Kenneth (Tracy), David (Yolonda), Westville; granddaughter, Susan (Gerard Kennedy), Stellarton; special great-grandson, Alex Brine; brothers: Rod Fraser (Gladys), Stoney Plain, AB; John W. Fraser, Veterans Wing, Pictou; Angus Fraser, Duncan, BC; Angus Sloan's family: James Sloan, Kentville; Richard Sloan, Greenwood, NS; Janet Sloan, Moose Jaw, Sask; David Sloan, Bowmanville, Ontario; numerous nieces and nephews and many life long friends.
She was predeceased by her parents, husbands, Harry Martin and Charles MacDonald; and two sisters-in-law.
She was a wonderful cook and worked at many kitchens throughout New Glasgow such as Flickers Restaurant, Norfolk Hotel, Aberdeen Hospital Kitchen and her most loved job for many, many years at the Old Cosy Corner for Peter Demetre baking her famous cinnamon rolls and coconut cream pie and the last few years enjoyed helping with the suppers at the First United Baptist Church Hall.
Her remains will rest in the H.W. Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Saturday from where funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday with Rev. Leo Fletcher and Lay Pastor Joe Van Busker officiating. Interment will be in the Abercrombie Cemetery. A reception will follow at the funeral home.
Donations if one wishes may be made to the Palliative Care Society, Aberdeen Hospital or the Pictou County VON.
