Born in Coweta County, Georgia to William Banks and Elizabeth Banks (also a Banks by birth), she married John Wesley Gordon (son of Silas Gordon and Sarah "Sallie" Cook who are both buried in this same cemetery in unmarked graves). John Wesley married again after Mary's death and died in Limestone County, Texas. Their children together are; Saphronia A. Gordon (1844-1888), William Davis Gordon (1845-1905), Epsey Adeline Elizabeth Gordon (1847-1927), Silas Caleb Calhoun Gordon (1850-1929), Lemuel Prue Gordon (1853-), Mary Almedia Gordon (1855-1932), and Ludie Eugenia Gordon (1860-). John Wesley did not have children with his second wife. John Wesley's parents, Silas and Sarah Cook Gordon, had a plantation home near the present church and donated the land that the church was built on. The church was formally called Old White Oak Baptist Church, or something like that. Silas ran a pub and up until the late 70's, part of it was still standing. The road Gordon Road was named after this family since it ran through or next to their land. I am a great-great-great-great-grandson of John Wesley Gordon and Mary Banks, and my family still lives in the area.
