Sheldon was born April 13, 1908, in Leavitt, Alberta, Canada, the oldest son of Albert Hyrum and Annie Wilson Alder. The family moved to Weiser in September 1920. He graduated from Weiser High School in 1927 and went on a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to the North Central States Mission April 14, 1929.

He married Ruth Anderson, his childhood sweetheart, Dec. 26, 1931, and their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple, Sept. 12, 1932. They had four children, twins Lee and Leora, and two daughters, Lillie and Merna.

Sheldon worked at Potters and Chamberlains and later farmed. He was active in community affairs and very involved in church. He held administrative positions, priesthood positions, and was ward clerk, financial clerk and stake auditor for many years. He also served in the Boise Temple. He served a second Mission in 1975, in the Montana Billings Mission serving with his wife Ruth on Indian reservations at Haver and Lame Deer, Montana where they made many Native American friends among the Chippewa, Cree and Cheyenne tribes.

Sheldon liked sports, especially baseball, which he played in high school and when he was 79 and 80 years old he coached little league baseball which he loved and his team took first place in the region. Sheldon loved and served everyone in his home, his community and his church.

He is survived by two sisters, Zola Schlerf and Alta Stettler; two sister's in-law, Tillie Alder and LaPriel Stephan; a brother-in-law, M. E.
