She was the child of Debbie (Westerfield) Phelps Proffitt and Jimmy Phelps. The death of Bridget was attributed to a very rare disease known as Reye's Syndrome. Although the exact cause of Reye's Syndrome is not known, it is believed that administering aspirin to children can lead to the disease.
