Christian was born on the old homestead his father John started in 1858. His father died in 1881 from injuries he received after being throw from a wagon. Christian was one of the enterprising young argriculturists of Wayne Co, possessing the energy and determination and the sound common sense of his German ancestors. He remained on the old homestead where he was born,aiding in the management of the place,and mastering the details of farming when he was a mere youth. In 1894 he became the sole owner of one hundred and eighteen acres,on which stand the house and barn owned by his father. He also owned a store in Cambridge City In. and was known as "Graver the Grocer" He was married to Edna F Shaffer daughter of Adam and Rachel Shaw Shaffer on Feb 22 1894, she died May 7 1959.He was a gentleman,broad minded and patriotic with excellent education. Father of Elva Gertrude,Orie Otto,Howard S,Ivan H and Hester Irene.
