SOUTH BEND-----Mr George David "Catfish" Scallions, Sr. 79, of South Bend, Indiana passed away after an extended illness on Thursday morning, May 21, 1998 in his residence. He was born on June 12, 1918, in Jackson, Tennessee to Doluphus D. and Mammie Walters Scallions. On May 12, 1956, in Cleveland, Ohio, he married Christina Vest, who survives. He is also survived by 10 children: daughters, Georgia Ann Schricker of Osceola, Indiana, Mary Jo Elliot of South Bend, In., Esther Scallions of Osceola, Carolyn Carter of Milan, Tenn., and Shirley Owen of Hendersonville, Tenn; his sons, Bruce David Scallions of Tovy, Illinois, Billy Ray Scallions of Taylorville, Illinois, Jack Vest Scallions of South Bend, In., James Ray Scallions of South Bend, In., and George Scallions, Jr. of Osceola, In. 14 grandchildren and two great grand children; his sisters, Helen Rush, Jessie Holt and Betty Neil Mays, all of Taylorville, Illinois, Lucille Donovon of Decatur, Tenn., and Mary E. Wilkens and Thelma Woods of Parsons, Tennessee and by three brothers, Odell of Cerulean, Kentucky, James E Scallions of Port Richie, Florida and Calvin Scallions of Stonington, Illinois. Mr. Scallions retired from the City of South Bend where he worked for 23 years. He was a member of Teamsters Local 364 and belonged to Ducks Unlimited. Services will be held at one P.M. on Wednesday, May 27, 1998 in the Welsheimer Funeral Home, 521 North William Street, South Bend, Indiana. Burial will take place in the Highland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. on Tuesday in the funeral home.
