Robert William Constien, 89 passed away at 8:05 PM on Monday, February 2, 2015 at Birchaven Health Care Center, Findlay. He was born July 1, 1925 in Vanlue, Ohio to George R. and Helen (Hammond) Constien. He graduated from high school in 1943. At age 18 he joined the US Navy and was sent to engineering school at Ohio Wesleyan, Cornell University, and Northwestern University for midshipman’s school. He reported to the West Coast as engineering officer on LCI 746 and then as executive officer. Later he was commanding officer on an LSM. He was discharged from the Navy in 1946 and continued in the Navy Reserve for 16 years as a LTJG. On July 18, 1948 he married Janet Louise Vickers at the First Lutheran Church in Findlay. Mr. Constien attended Case Institute of Technology transferring to BGSU where he received four degrees, including his master’s in education. In 1953, he began teaching industrial arts in Findlay at Donnell Junior High. He became a principal and the supervisor of audio visual aids for the Findlay City School. Bob was a member of Kappa Delta Pi, Epsilon Pi Tau, the Masons, Exchange Club, the Elks and a life member of the NEA and OEA. He was a lifetime member of the First Lutheran Church in Findlay and was a past Sunday school teacher. Bob is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Louise, and his grandson Jared Constien. He is survived by four children: Richard of Findlay, OH; Robert (Cynthia) of Port Clinton, OH; Lisa (Don, deceased) Schultz of Wickenburg, AZ; Ronald (Ann) of Edwards, CO, and nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Donations in his memory may be made to the following: The Findlay-Hancock County Community Foundation (Bob Constien Memorial in the memo line to help a needy Boy Scout attend camp), Alzheimer’s Association, or The First Lutheran Church of Findlay. Visitation will be held Friday, February 13, 2015 at the Birchaven chapel from 1:00 – 3:00 PM. A visitation at 10:00 AM and a memorial service will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, February 14, 2015 at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, Findlay with Chaplain Mike Thompson officiating.
