Betty C. DeRuiter Bean
June 9, 1920 - November 28, 2014

Betty C. Bean, a resident of Petal, MS for over 50 years, born on June 9, 1920 was taken by our Lord on November 28, 2014.

She was born in Lancaster, Pa and attended Wheaton College where she graduated Suma Cum Laude. She married Rev. Alton W. Bean shortly after college and moved to Philadelphia, PA where she began teaching math. She had three children before the passing of her husband, Alton.

She then accepted a position as a mathematician at Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland. Several years later she married Rev. Peter DeRuiter and promptly moved to Mississippi where she had another child and raised her family.

She then continued her career as an educator, teaching math at Hattiesburg High School before her retirement. In her spare time, she was a musician and played the piano and organ at her church for over 50 years. She retired as organist of Petal Presbyterian Church in October 2014. She enjoyed the Garden Club, stamp collecting and Sudoku.

Preceded in death by her first husband, Rev. Alton W. Bean and second husband, Rev. Peter DeRuiter, daughter Deborah DeRuiter and grandson Christopher Bean.

Survived by her children, 7 grand children and 5 great grand children.

Services will be held at Hulett Winstead Funeral Home on Monday, December 1, 2014.

Graveside services will be held on Friday, December 5, 2014 at Quarryville Cemetery.
