Beverly Mildred Blumenthal
December 6, 1924 - February 6, 2015

Beverly Mildred Blumenthal, 90, passed away Friday, Feb. 6, 2015, of age-related causes at Farmington Square Assisted Living in Beaverton, Ore. Bev was a native of Hood River County, having been born to Clyde and Mildred (Andrus) Cox on Dec. 6, 1924, at the Hood River Hospital. She had an older sister, Audrey, and a younger brother, Don.
Bev grew up in the Mount Hood and Parkdale areas and was valedictorian of the Parkdale High School class of 1943. She attended Willamette University for one year and was a member of Delta Tau Gamma sorority.
On April 14, 1945, Bev married Leonard Blumenthal. They were married 58 years until his passing in 2003. After working in the Portland Shipyards during World War II, Bev was a cook at Mt. Hood Meadows and spent 35 years packing fruit for Duckwall-Pooley. She retired in 1987. From 1971 until 2003 Bev and Len spent many happy days at the Chinook Sportsman Association in Chinook, Wash. They were charter members of a private fishing camp at Baker Bay on the mouth of the Columbia River. While Len would fish Bev could be found reading a book and cooking something delicious for the Saturday night potlucks. She was especially known for her apple pies and salmon dip.
After retirement Bev's life seemed to get busier. Her other hobbies and interests included bowling, the Upper Valley Lions Club, Parkdale Grange and volunteering at the Hutson Museum. She was a member of the Parkdale Community Church. She was very creative and made table decorations for the Grange and Lions. She organized several reunions for the Parkdale High School Class of 1943 and also the Parkdale High School and Community Annual Reunion held the third Sunday of July at Tollgate Park.
Bev is survived by son Stanley (Charlotte) Blumenthal, of Beaverton, Ore.; her sister-in-law Shirlene Cox of Opelika, Ala., three grandchildren: Rebecca (Tom) Duda, of Beaverton, Ore., Jeremy (Kipplyn) Blumenthal, of Byron Hills, Ill., and Joshua (Maranda) Blumenthal, of Glenpool, Okla.; and six great-grandchildren: Aaron, Abbie, Nicole and Jillian Duda and Bryn and Declan Blumenthal. Other survivors include several nieces, nephews and numerous friends.
Preceding Bev in death were her husband, Len; infant son Robert, in 1955, and son Danny, a park ranger for the State of Oregon who was killed in the line of duty on April 27, 1999. Sister Audrey predeceased her in December 2006 and brother Don in January 2012.
Bev lived in Parkdale until she moved to Beaverton in 2010. She had broken an ankle and needed assistance with her daily living activities. In October 2013 Bev suffered a stroke and her care needs became greater. Her family would like to thank the staff at Farmington Square for the love and care they provided to Bev during the final 15 months of her life.
Her funeral service will be held on Monday, Feb. 23, at 11 a.m. at the Parkdale Community Church with Pastor Mark Willems and Rev. Don Gibbs officiating. Burial will follow at the Upper Valley Parkdale Cemetery.
Memorial contributions can be given in Bev's memory to the Parkdale Community Church.
