FAIRHAVEN – Miriam E. "Mimi" (Nelson) Horsfall, 90, formerly of New Bedford, died Friday, May 22, 2009, at Alden Court Nursing and Rehab Center in Fairhaven, where she received such wonderful attention from its caring staff over the past three years. She was the wife of the late Edwin E. “Pop” Horsfall, with whom she shared sixty-two years of married life.

Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Alfred E. and the late Charlotte (Oliver) Nelson, she lived most of her life in the city. Mimi was a graduate of New Bedford High School, where she excelled at track, especially sprint events, having just missed qualifying for the Olympic Games. She was a lifelong member of the South Baptist Church in New Bedford.

Mrs. Horsfall had worked at the Star Store in the children’s shoe department for almost twenty-five years. She enjoyed taking trips to Stowe, VT, to enjoy the foliage along Rte. 100 and collect leaves. She was at her best caring for other people and will be missed by all whom she touched.

She is survived by a son, David E. Horsfall and his wife Roberta of East Freetown; two grandchildren, Stacey Ayn Maloney and her husband Timothy of New Bedford and Andrew D. Horsfall and his wife Lauren of Derry, NH; three great-grandchildren, Kylie, Ashley and Gracie Maloney; and an aunt and dear friend, Muriel Pielech of New Bedford; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Her funeral service will be Tuesday, May 26, 2009, at 11:00AM in the South Baptist Church, 745 Brock Ave., New Bedford. Cremation will follow and all other arrangements will be private under the direction of THE DONAGHY FUNERAL HOME, 465 County Street, New Bedford.
