John William Abbott was married to Esther Ann Draper on June 19, 1869 in Queensville, Haldimand, Ontario, Canada, and they had one child, Susan Parmelia "Millie" Abbott. They arrived in America about 1877. Esther died at a young age. He married Hattie Cecelia Babcock in Michigan. While there, he served as a county clerk and justice of the peace. John and Hattie were the parents of seven children: Clara Lillian Abbott, Gilbert Franklin Abbot, Esther May Abbott, Julia Ann Abbott, Albert Leonard Abbott, Alice Marie Abbot, and Allen Carl Abbott. John moved to Washington in 1905, first living in Tacoma for about 25 years. He then settled in Tenino, where most residents knew him as "Uncle John." He died at his home there at 92 years old.
