Gerald N. Carroll, “Jerry", 76, of Vinton, died Saturday, May 24, 1996 at the Veterans Hospital in Salem.

He was a veteran of World War II having served with the Army Air-Force. He was a member of Vinton Baptist Church and an ordained Deacon for over 50 years. He was a life member of Virginia Association of Volunteer Rescue Squads, past vice-president of the 6th District of Virginia Association of Volunteer Rescue Squads. He was a life member of Vinton First Aid Crew and an honorary member of Bedford County Life Saving Crew.

He was the son of the late Walter M. Carroll and Minnie Forbes Carroll.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mildred B. Carroll; two sons and daughters-in-law, Gary E. and Mot (Martha) Carroll, Cherry Grove, S.C., Dennis N. Carroll and Vicky Cadd of Vinton; daughters and sons-in-law, Betty Diane and Delmer Clark, Roanoke, Jane and Bill Camp, Roanoke; grandchildren, Melissa Owen, Salisbury, N.C., Todd Carroll, Blacksburg, Khera Carroll, Detroit, Mich., Dawn Letchford, Vinton, Ray Shanks, U.S. Marine Corp, Camp LeJeune, N.C., Susan N. Camp, Portsmouth, Jerry Camp and Rebecca Camp both of Roanoke; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy Forbes and Mildred Covington both of Vinton; brother, Richard (Dick) Carroll, Vinton; special friend, Gordon (Red) Watson.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 28, 1996 from the Vinton Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. William L. Ross and the Rev. Kevin Meadow officiating. Burial to follow in Mountain View Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Vinton Baptist Church or the Vinton First Aid Crew. Friends may call at Lotz Vinton Chapel after noon Sunday. The family will receive friends from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday and Monday at the Lotz Vinton Chapel.
