Hattie Ayers Armstrong, 93, of Lexington, died Friday, May 24, 1996 in Stonewall Jackson Hospital. Born April 25, 1903 in Rockbridge County, she was the daughter of the late William Brady Ayers and Cornelia Hughes Ayers.

She was the widow of Lubie H. Armstrong, who preceded her in death in 1981 after 60 years of marriage.

Mrs. Armstrong was an active and Charter Member and Past president of the East Lexington Home Demonstration Club, former member of Gillock Sunday School Class and a Morning Circle of Trinity United Methodist Church, where she was a life-long member and was confirmed at the age of thirteen. Mrs. Armstrong was a life-ling resident of Lexington and Rockbridge Co. and knew every inch of Rockbridge Co. and its families. Friends and family enjoyed her stories of the olden days.

Surviving are her daughter, Eleanor Armstrong Scott, Greenville, Miss.; granddaughter and husband, Susan and James Blaine, Greenville, Miss; grandson and wife, Mark and Deborah Scott, Williamsburg, Va.; great-grandchildren, Mark and Betsy Scott, Williamsburg; sisters, Mrs. Fred (Ruth) Arndt, Lexington, Mrs. Frank (Louise) McCormick, Lexington; brother, William Brady Ayers, Chapperal, New Mexico.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, May 26, 1996 at 4 p.m. from Trinity United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Kenneth Patrick and the Rev. Frederick Arndt officiating. Burial will follow in Stonewall Jackson Cemetery. The family suggests memorials to Trinity United Methodist Church, Lexington First Aid or charity of choice. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Harrison Funeral Home.
