IN MEMORY OF F. R. HUCKABY
Let us cross over the river and rest in the shade of the trees. Stonewall JACKSON
F. R. HUCKABY was born July 10, 1847 near Camden Alabama and was the son of J. F. and Elizabeth RIDDLE HUCKABY. His fathers family and a number of other families came to Texas in 1849 and settled some near Butler and some near Fairfield, Freestone County. Mr. HUCKABYs family, near the latter place. As a young man, Mr. HUCKABY attended school at the young men's school at Fairfield and later at Old Woodland College. After the war, about 1869, his father moved to Fairfield to what is now known as the Old Huckaby Home.
He was married Jan. 30, 1875 to Miss Willie STRAIN, daughter of Dr. W. D. STRAIN of Fairfield. In about 1879 they moved five miles east of Fairfield. To this union were born seven children, Two girls and five boys. Three
boys died in infancy. Bennie, now Mrs. J. A. MCDONALD, Lizzie, now Mrs. Ples LAKE of Greenville, Fuller and Norwood. Norwood died Oct. 24, 1923.
For thirty years the family circle remained unbroken and on Dec. 18, 1908 his wife died. In Oct. 1919 Mr. HUCKABY came to Fairfield and made his home with his daughter Mrs. J. A. MCDONALD at which place he lived till his death, Feb. 14, 1925. In addition to the three above mentioned children, Mr. HUCKABY is survived by seventeen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. In the Fairfield Cemetery his body was laid to rest in the presents of one of the greatest gatherings ever assembled there. Mr. HUCKABY was a Royal Arch Mason, having joined the lodge at the age of 21, and at the time of his death he had been a member of this lodge longer than any other person living. Probably no man ever lived in Freestone County who had more warm friends than Uncle Frank. He was a useful, honorable upright citizen.
Our County has suffered in irreparable loss in his death. A man of fine sense and judgment, his counsel in advice will be missed beyond measure. He was a great deer and foxhunter. While on the farm he always had a pack of fine hounds. The writer has enjoyed the hospitality of his home where had a wonderful way of making one feel so welcome. He has also been deer hunting with him, has ridden all night fox hunting with him, but the chief has passed on. The hunting and fishing ground know him no more. Peace to his ashes, dreamless and sweetly is asleep. Across his pathway he share his share of life's shadow had fallen, but brave and fearless every fresh was his faith, every bright was his hope, hopeful and cheerful at all times.
He was especially loved by all the young men and of his generous heart is forever stealed the love and sunshine that he scattered through life will abide always in the hearts of his friends. He has been called to that place beyond the stars we are told that there is a land fairer than day, a land where disappointment is unknown, a land where shadows never fall.

DEATH CLAIMS WELL KNOWN AND RESPECTED CITIZEN
Another of our old time citizen was removed when death claimed Mr. F. R. Huckaby at 6:20 last Saturday evening. He had been ill only a few days at the home of his daughter, Miss Fuller Huckaby. His remains were interned in the Fairfield Cemetery the following afternoon with Masonic Honors, He having long been a member of the Fairfield Masonic Lodge. An enormous crowd gathered at the cemetery to pay their last respects. Represented citizens being present from Teague, Kirven, Oakwood, Wortham and near by and nearly every community in this county. Mr. Huckaby was nearly 78 years of age and his family moved here from Alabama when he was two years old, settling on the Adams place south of town. He moved to Fairfield and later to his home place east of Faifield. The last few years he hade been making his home in town with his children. He was a man of sterling character and of a happy cheerful disposition and was effectionaly called Uncle Frank by the younger generation of citizens who loved to be with him at all times.
He is survived by the following children: Mrs. Ples Blake of Greenville and Mrs. J. A McDonald and Fuller Huckaby of Fairfield.

TRIBUTE OF RESPECT TO F. R. HUCKABY
To the worshipful MASTER WARDENS and BRETHREN of Fairfield Lodge, No. 103
A. F. & A. M.
We, your committee appointed to draft resolutions of respect to the memory of our deceased brother, F. R. Huckaby report as follows: where as it has pleased the all wise creator to remove from our mist, our brother F. R. Huckaby therefore it be resolved.
1st That in the death of brother Huckaby our lodge has lost one its oldest and best members. The county one of its best citizens.
2nd That we deplore his lost, calling to mind his usefulness as a citizen and his zeal and fidelity as a brother mason. No man will be missed more from our mist than Uncle Frank as he was known by everyone. He was a familiar figure on our streets and meet everyone with a pleasant smile and kind word and was loved by everyone, especially by the younger men of the community.
3rd that we sincerely grieve and sympathize with his family in this their dark hour of affliction assuring them that they are not alone in their sorrow and loss.
4th That a page of the record of this lodge be sent apart to the memory of our deceased brother, that a copy of this resolution be handed by our brothers secretary to his family as a token of our esteem and brotherly love.
