"Mrs. Laura Williams Nichols passed away January 31st, 1934 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. C. Beavers, west of Bentonville, at the age of 82 years. She had been in ill health for the past few months. Funeral services were held for her at the Christian Church at Hiwasse, February 1st, the Rev. Durbin, conducting the services. Burial took place in the family plot in Gamble cemetery. Here also lies her parents, Elijah and Elizabeth Williams, with whom she emigrated from North Carolina when a young girl of about 16 years. Aunt Laura as she was known to many was born in Hayward (sic) County, North Carolina October 21, 1852. She professed Christ at an early age and united with the Baptist Church before leaving her Carolina home. In 1875 she married James Allison Nichols, who preceded her in death 12 years ago. To this union were born four children; Claud who died 10 years ago and three daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth Beaver of Bentonville, Mrs. Cora Sooter of Hiwasse and Mrs. Ellen Burcham of Colcord, Oklahoma. She was a sister of the late Lon Williams, ex-county Judge, and Mrs. J. H. Buxley. A brother, Thos. Williams of Muphey, Oregon, survives her, as well as her sister, Mrs. Ellen Rice of Vaughn, besides a host of friends and other relatives. Mrs. Nichols was a devoted mother, a kind and loving wife, a good neighbor, always ready to lend a helping hand to those that were in need. SHe was as helpless as a baby for ten weeks before she passed away, and while her suffering was great she never murmured nor complained.
