Mrs. Mattie Brooks, 82, died in a rest home at Vernon.
Services were held at the First Methodist Church in Seymour. Interment was in the Odd Fellow Cemetery in Seymour.
Mattie Elliott moved to Baylor County in 1901, settling in the Shady Community. Later they moved to Bomarton.
Mattie Elliott married J.C. Brooks on 29 September 1923. The couple moved to the Plainview community in 1939 and then to Seymour. Mr. Brooks died in 1942 and was buried in the Odd Fellows Cemetery in Seymour.
Survived by four children - Edgar Brooks, Mrs. Myrtle Miller, Mrs. Eula Fuson, Erskine Brooks; one brother - Tom Elliott; one sister - Mrs. Richard Cassle; six grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Brooks was an active member of the First Methodist Church and taught a class for children for many years.
